Falls Church, VA
Attorney Robert M. Diamond, senior counsel at Reed Smith in Tysons Corner, Va., has been honored with the Don Buck Lifetime Contribution Award, the most prestigious recognition given by Community Association Institute's (CAI) College of Community Association Lawyers (CCAL). Diamond accepted the award at the 2020 Community Association Law Seminar in Las Vegas. The award recognizes attorneys who exhibit exceptional leadership in the field of community association law.

Diamond has devoted his more than 35-year career to the practice of common interest community law and to volunteering with CAI. Diamond is a CAI past president and has served as a faculty member for the Professional Management Development Program (PMDP). He also has volunteered on various CAI committees, including those involving amicus curiae briefs, priority liens, and federal legislation. Diamond was inducted as a CCAL fellow in 2001.

In addition, Diamond served as one of four drafters of the Uniform Condominium Act for the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (known today as the Uniform Laws Commission), prepared the 1975 amendments to the Virginia Condominium Act, and served as secretary on the District of Columbia Bar Real Estate Committee and chairman of the District Bar Subcommittee on Condominiums.

The Lifetime Contribution Award was created in 2009 in honor of Gurdon "Don" Buck, an innovator in the field of community association law. Buck died in 2008.

Among his many achievements, Buck devoted countless hours to the betterment of common interest communities with his contributions in education and scholarly writings for CAI and other organizations. Through this award, CCAL ensures that Buck's spirit, devotion, and commitment to the community association industry are remembered.

The Don Buck Lifetime Contribution Award is awarded periodically at the discretion of the CCAL Board of Governors. Diamond is the ninth recipient of the award.
