Share Your Connections With Elected Officials

Please use the form below to indicate which elected official(s) you know on a personal level.

CAI’s legislative advocacy work makes an impact nationwide, as we collaborate with members, partners and advocates on the ground to advocate for meaningful policy change that helps communities like yours thrive. You have an opportunity to help CAI maximize our impact and effectively plan for future public policy discussions by leveraging the reach of our collective networks.

Please let us know about any connections you may have, past or present. If you remember meeting someone, they likely remember meeting you, as well. This has an impact.

Why is CAI collecting this information?

Strong personal relationships are a powerful means of influencing legislative decision-making. Building meaningful, collaborative relationships with elected officials is incredibly important and requires a great deal of time and effort.

By understanding who in our network of community association advocates has a relationship with elected officials, we can build advocacy programs that advance our positions on numerous issues directly impacting our members and the community association industry.

When we mention to a legislator that a CAI member knows them or a member of their staff personally, it increases the likelihood they will be willing to engage in meaningful discussion about policy change.

While data can be incredibly compelling for legislators and other powerful decision makers, social networks and relationships are also critically important. By acknowledging these connections, harnessing the power of existing relationships, and making a genuine human connection, we can influence policy and make a positive impact.

What kind of relationships should you report?

Please use this form to let CAI know about relationships you have or have had with state or federal lawmakers or members of their staff. These relationships can include, but are not limited to:

  • Friends
  • Family
  • Friends of friends or friends of family
  • College/school roommates or classmates
  • Service providers who have worked for or with the elected official (hairdressers, doctors, pet sitters, babysitters, teachers, etc.)

Did your friend’s cousin intern for a legislator when they were in college? Were you roommates with a legislator or a member of their staff? Does a legislator or a member of their staff live in your community association or neighborhood, and perhaps you’ve met them while trick-or-treating? Has your child’s dentist mentioned being neighbors with a legislator? Is a former co-worker now serving in elected office? These are all examples of relationships and connections CAI would love to hear about.
