Each fall, CAI's Large-Scale Managers Committee hosts an annual workshop exclusively for community managers specializing in large-scale communities.  In 2024, we will be in
Montgomery County, MD - September 11 - 14.

What is a Large-Scale Community?
A large-scale community is defined as a community providing municipal type services with a minimum of 1,000 units or minimum of 1,000 acres and a minimum of $2 million operating budget.

What is the Workshop?
The workshop is an immersive experience where participants have the opportunity to tour two to three large-scale communities - from pools to parking lots - and everything in between. Additionally, participants will also have access to exclusive networking events and education sessions specifically designed for the large-scale community manager.

Note: The workshop will be a walking/touring workshop. Be sure to bring your walking shoes and umbrellas. If anyone requires special accommodations, please reach out to Carly Reid at creid@caionline.org.

  • Immerse yourself in a state packed with history—from the birthplace of the National Anthem to the musings of Edgar Allen Poe, the US Naval Academy to the “sailing capital of the world”—and see how some of the most unique master-planned communities continue to be pioneers in the HOA industry.  Maryland has it all: mountains, lakes, farms, forests, caves, cities, the Chesapeake Bay, shoreline along the Atlantic, and of course, large-scale communities! We will explore communities established over the last 60 years and learn how farmland and mountains were transformed into vibrant places to live. Discussions and tours will focus on revitalizing aging infrastructure, planning for the future, and offering unique amenities that fit within the landscape of the community. Enjoy educational sessions and entertainment in the heart of Maryland, and take home a little history!
