Jim Slaughter, a partner in the North Carolina law firm of Rossabi Black Slaughter, has been elected president of CAI’s prestigious College of Community Association Lawyers (CCAL).  He will assume office January 1, just prior to CAI’s 35th Annual Community Association Law Seminar in Las Vegas.

"Serving as president is a great honor given the respect I have for CCAL and its members," said Slaughter. "In addition to being premiere community association lawyers, our members generously share their knowledge and expertise through articles, books and programs for homeowners, managers and other community association professionals."

CCAL members are also actively involved in state and federal legislative activities and prepare amicus (friend-of-the-court) briefs on critical judicial cases that affect common-interest communities.

Slaughter has served on CCAL's Board of Governors since 2010 and is a member of the North Carolina CAI Chapter Board.  In addition, he is a Certified Professional Parliamentarian, Professional Registered Parliamentarian and past president of the American College of Parliamentary Lawyers. Slaughter is author of two books on association meeting procedure, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Parliamentary Procedure Fast Track and Notes and Comments on Robert’s Rules, Fourth Edition.

Henry A. Goodman, a partner in Goodman, Shapiro & Lombardi, LLC, in Dedham, Mass., and Steve S. Weil, a partner in Berding & Weil, LLP, in Walnut Creek, Calif., were elected to the CCAL Board. The 2014 CCAL board also includes:

Established in 1993 by the CAI Board of Trustees, CCAL provides a forum for the exchange of information among experienced legal professionals working in the community association field. Its goals include promoting high standards of professional and ethical responsibility, improving and advancing community association law and practice, and facilitating the development of educational materials and programming pertaining to legal issues.
