CAI Announces Officers for 2000

3/27/2000  -  Alexandria, VA

The Community Associations Institute recently named four individuals as officers of the association's Board of Trustees. Each person is responsible for guiding the association over the next 12 months as it takes on new endeavors. The officers took their elected positions on March 1.

Ellen Hirsch de Haan, JD, begins her term as CAI's new chair. A graduate of Boston University and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, de Haan completed her law studies at the University of Miami School of Law, and is a partner with Becker & Poliakoff, P.A., in Clearwater, FL., where she specializes in the practice of Community Association Law.

In addition to her activities with her local CAI chapter, de Haan is a contributing editor for Common Ground™, CAI's bi-monthly journal of community associations, has written several articles for the same publication, and has appeared on national television shows such as ABC World News Tonight, Inside Report and A Current Affair. In addition, de Haan is a member of CAI's College of Community Association Lawyers (CCAL), the American Bar Association Committee on Condominiums, Cooperatives and Associations, and has written a chapter for an ABA book on creation and management of community associations, which is currently in production.

Currently building a PUD in New Hampshire, Maryjane Moore, CMCA, PCAM, brings over 15 years of experience to CAI as its chair-elect. She started her career managing common interest communities, and then opened Community Association Services eight years ago with a partner to provide consulting services to associations, management firms, developers, lending institutions, HUD and USAID.

In 1998, her company partnered in the development of Crosswoods Path, in Merrimack, NH—a planned unit development that is being built using elements of the Smart Growth Initiative including cluster zoning, preservation of open space and the use of Traditional Neighborhood Design. Since 1987, Moore has been active at both the local and national levels of CAI, serving on many committees, task forces and councils, as well as speaking, writing and serving as a facilitator of strategic planning.

Barbara D. Wick, executive vice president of Condominium Insurance Specialists of America, Inc., located in Arlington Heights, IL, is CAI's new secretary. A graduate of Swarthmore College and University of Chicago, Wick has served both CAI and her local chapter in a variety of ways. She's served as a member of CAI's Board of Directors, as President of her local chapter and was President of CAI's Research Foundation in 1984-1985. In addition, Wick has written a number of articles for trade publications on specific issues in the community association insurance field, and has served as Common Ground™'s Editor for Insurance since 1986.

Mitchell H. Frumkin, P.E., P.P, RS, is CAI's new Treasurer. A graduate of Tulane University and Rutgers University, Frumkin is president of Kipcon Incorporated, a business located in Highland Park, NJ, that specializes in providing engineering services to community associations. Frumkin currently serves as a Board Member of the New Jersey Chapter of CAI, and is also that chapter's immediate past president. On the national level, he has served as president of the Research Foundation and as chairman of the Reserve Professionals Designation Committee. Frumkin publishes articles on a regular basis for numerous community association magazines and newspapers on a national level, and served as editor and co-author of the nationally published book, A Complete Guide to Reserve Funding and Reserve Investment Strategies.

Each officer will serve a one-year term, ending on Feb. 28, 2001. For more information about CAI, or it's officers or Board of Trustees, call CAI at (703) 548-8600.
