"Building Harmonious Communities" Tops CAI's National Conference Agenda

Condominium, cooperative and homeowner associations are evolving into more effective, competent, vibrant communities thanks to operational and leadership tools offered by the Community Associations Institute. CAI's 46th National Conference and Exposition will offer a showcase of innovations, fresh approaches and new products and services to help associations pave the way to community excellence, May 20-22 in Denver.

Building on the success of CAI's 45th National Conference, where a new emphasis on fostering community spirit emerged as the number-one priority in community associations today, this national gathering of homeowners and specialized professionals will guide associations past dated paradigms and define community-building strategies that work.

Keynote speakers include Vince Lombardi, discussing "Motivation, Commitment and Mental Toughness;" and Frank Miles, delivering an inspirational message, "Laugh at Fear." Program highlights include courses organized into learning tracks for maximizing human potential, implementing innovative practices, professional development and special interest sessions:

"Alternative futures for community associations," a lively discussion of trends and controversy Communications strategies, from building teams and surveying community satisfaction to working with the press and developing leadership skills Community associations and the Fair Housing Act, the latest FCC rules, tax issues and other legislative and regulatory priorities Financial strategies, including preventing and detecting fraud, funding building renovations and future building projects, reducing association dues delinquency, new management information systems, reserve funding and insurance A recap of the hottest questions in community association law today, including banning Megan's Law offenders and construction defect litigation success strategies Business development, from "Creating the Management Company of Tomorrow" to "Doing Business on the Internet" Governance, including board member education and working effectively with professional management Popular ShopTalk networking and information sessions for managers, attorneys, insurance professionals and accountants

CAI's National Conference Exhibition will showcase specialized services for community associations, including computerized management software; reserve study, banking, insurance, legal, landscaping and maintenance providers; security systems; and satellite dishes. Featured products include roofing and siding, pool resurfacing, windows and doors, lighting fixtures, carpeting, fire-retardant wood products and painting and paving.

Pre-conference Professional Development Management Program courses will be offered Monday, May 17 through Wednesday, May 19. National Conference events begin Wednesday, May 20 at the Adam's Mark Hotel in Denver. Three-day conference registration fees begin at $545; daily registration rates are available.
