ALEXANDRIA, VA, JULY 23, 2008 – Sixty-three recipients of the Professional Community Association Manager (PCAM) designation are among almost 300 industry professionals awarded designations by Community Associations Institute (CAI) during the first half of 2008.
The following were also awarded:
- 214 Association Management Specialists (AMS)
- 12 Reserve Specialists (RS)
- 8 Community Insurance and Risk Management Specialists (CIRMS)
- 2 Large Scale Managers (LSM)
In addition, six attorneys were admitted to the College of Community Association Lawyers (CCAL), bringing that group's membership to 110. The new members are Karna Gustafson of Portland; Lauren C. Holmes of Golden, CO; Christine F. Li of Woodbridge, NJ; Caroline Record of Morristown, NJ; Kenneth R. Sauter of Morristown, NJ; and Michael T. Schulman of Las Vegas.
The PCAM is the third and highest designation for professional managers. The AMS is the second tier in the hierarchy of professional certification and designations for community association managers. The first tier is the Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA) credential, administered by CAI's affiliate organization, the National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers (NBC-CAM). CAI's LSM designation demonstrates a specialized knowledge in the management and operation of large-scale community associations.
The RS designation recognizes education, expertise and experience in the conduct of reserve studies, an increasingly important component of community association operations. The CIRMS designation recognizes a demonstrated high level of competency within the risk management profession.
CAI's designation programs were established in the 1990s and early 2000s to elevate the level of professionalism in the community association marketplace, a dynamic segment of the U.S. housing market that now encompasses more than 60 million Americans in an estimated 300,000 association-governed communities.
More than 4,000 managers have earned the AMS designation since it was established in 1990. Close to 1,700 managers have earned the PCAM and 39 have obtained the LSM. More than 150 professionals have received the RS designation, while 56 have earned the CIRMS designation.
CAI designation programs have elevated the professional stature of those who earn designations, and that has made CAI designations increasingly visible and valuable in the marketplace. Information on designations and CCAL membership can be accessed at www.caionline.org/about/designations.cfm.
