MARCUS HONORED BY FELLOW CONDOMINIUM ATTORNEYS
College of Community Association Lawyers Announce 2017 Don Buck Award

Feb. 15, 2017—Falls Church, VA— Stephen M. Marcus, a partner at Marcus, Errico, Emmer & Brooks P.C. in Braintree, M.A., has been awarded the Don Buck Lifetime Contribution Award, the most prestigious honor given by the College of Community Association Lawyers (CCAL). Marcus accepted the award in January during the 2017 Community Association Law Seminar in Las Vegas.

The award recognizes attorneys who exhibit exceptional leadership in the field of community association law.

Marcus has devoted his career to the community association industry. He was president of the College in 2015 and previously served on the CCAL Board of Governors. A leader and mentor in the community association area of law, Marcus has made numerous and remarkable contributions both locally and nationally.

Marcus has also worked on Community Associations Institute's (CAI) Amicus Curiae team, serving as the committee chair he worked to shape legal cases around the country. He has also applied his legal expertise and leveraged his role in CCAL to aid CAI's legislative efforts with the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), by meeting with his state senators and representatives, and working to secure important policy changes to preserve super liens across the country. Marcus was instrumental in helping CAI make changes in the federal bankruptcy law enabling community associations to collect assessments from bankrupt owners and to achieve a Superlien for Massachusetts condominium associations.

The Lifetime Contribution Award was created in 2009 in honor of Gurdon "Don" Buck, a pioneer and innovator in the field of community association law who died in 2008. Among his many achievements, Buck, a senior partner in what would eventually become Robinson & Cole, LLP, devoted countless hours to the betterment of common-interest communities with his service and contributions through education and scholarly writings for CAI and other organizations.

Through this award, CCAL ensures that Buck's spirit, devotion and commitment to the community association industry remain alive. The Don Buck Lifetime Contribution Award is awarded periodically at the discretion of the CCAL Board of Governors. Marcus is the fifth recipient of the award.
