The Board of Trustees of the Community Associations Institute (CAI) recently confirmed Thomas M. Skiba, MBA, as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective April 22, 2002. Mr. Skiba is taking over the organization's leadership from Barbara Byrd Keenan, CAE, who has served as CAI's president since 1990, and is leaving CAI to pursue other leadership, educational and consulting opportunities.

CAI is a national, nonprofit 501(c)(6) association, which was created in 1973 to provide education and resources to America's 231,000 residential condominium, cooperative and homeowner associations and related professionals and service providers.

"We are excited by the extensive background and depth of expertise that Tom will be bringing to CAI," said Mitchell H. Frumkin, P.E., RS, President of CAI's Board of Trustees. "His wealth of experience in the not-for-profit, higher education and government sectors will be a tremendous asset to CAI as we move forward."

Mr. Skiba has spent the last seventeen years working for the internationally recognized management consulting firm KPMG Consulting Inc.

While at KPMG Consulting, Mr. Skiba provided critical business advisory support to a wide variety of not-for-profit organizations, including the American Cancer Society, The Retired Officers Association, American Petroleum Institute, Smithsonian Institution, Kennedy Center, U.S. Holocaust Museum, American Red Cross, Public Broadcasting Service, National Geographic Society, and others. Mr. Skiba has also been responsible for a wide range of presentations and speeches on strategic and management-related topics, many focusing on the challenges facing not-for-profit organizations in a changing economic and technological environment.

As CEO, Mr. Skiba will oversee CAI's program of seminars, workshops, conferences and education programs, educational materials and publishing, grassroots and government advocacy, research, and other projects and activities.

CAI's mission is to foster vibrant, responsive, competent community associations that promote harmony, community, and responsible leadership. CAI members include condominium and homeowner associations, cooperatives and association-governed planned communities of all sizes and architectural types; individual homeowners; community association managers and management firms; public officials; and lawyers, accountants, engineers, reserve specialists, builder/developers and other providers of professional products and services for community associations. CAI has more than 16,500 members in 56 chapters throughout the U.S. and in several foreign countries.
