CAI President Thanks National Faculty For More Than 3,000 Hours of Service

5/19/2005  -  Alexandria, VA

CAI President Sandra K. Denton, CMCA, LSM, PCAM, paid tribute today to members of CAI's national faculty during the organization's 54th National Conference and Exposition in Tucson. As active members of CAI, many faculty members attend annual conferences.

"These volunteer instructors are responsible not just for educating thousands of their peers and colleagues every year, but also for elevating the community management profession as a whole," Denton said. "They deserve our respect and appreciation, not to mention gratitude from association board members who rely on the knowledge and expertise their managers obtained by attending CAI courses."

Denton addressed more than 600 members at CAI's Opening General Session at the West La Paloma Resort in Tucson, Arizona.

Members of CAI's national faculty are teaching a record 192 courses throughout the country during 2005. All told, these professionals will dedicate more than 3,000 hours to teaching - and that doesn't include the time flying or driving to and from the class locations.

CAI currently has 71 national faculty members, many of whom earned their professional designations after taking the courses they are now teaching.

Nearly 70 cities are hosting professional management courses in 2005, an ambitious schedule designed to bring the convenience of continuing education to as many parts of the country as possible.

"Education is a huge part of our mission, and these courses are an essential component of our total education package," says Michele M. Jerome, CAE, CAI's vice president of education. "These volunteers - many of whom teach classes year after year - volunteer their time to share their knowledge, expertise and experience with others. They don't have to do it, and they aren't compensated for their time. They do it to help others achieve and succeed."

Fourteen different courses are offered as part of CAI's Professional Management Development Program (PMDP), including the highly popular Essentials of Community Association Management, the starting block for attaining professional designations and gaining the skills and knowledge managers use to accelerate their professionalism and advance their careers.

More specialized PMDP courses include: Facilities Management, Association Communications, Community Leadership, Community Governance, Risk Management, Financial Management, Management Company Administration, Advanced Physical Maintenance, Advanced Insurance and Risk Management, Managing the Large–Scale Association, Manager and the Law, Leadership Practices in Building Community, and Contemporary Issues in Community Association Management. These two- and three-day courses have helped thousands of professionals gain in-depth understanding of the critical elements of association governance and management. The courses remove the guesswork from often-complicated issues, providing the knowledge and perspective that make managers more effective and valued employees. Specifically targeted to professional managers, the courses also are relevant to community association volunteer leaders in self-managed communities.
