Edward T Brenner, CAE, and Kristina C Cook were recently named senior vice presidents of the Community Associations Institute, heading Operations and Strategic Initiatives, respectively. Both senior vice presidencies are newly created positions.
“We are very pleased to announce the appointment of two key leaders who bring top-notch skills, experience and knowledge to our growing association,” said Barbara Byrd Keenan, president of CAI. “Ed and Kris will be instrumental in helping CAI achieve its goals of providing consumer education, professional development programs and public affairs representation to the nation's 205,000 condominium, cooperative and homeowner associations.”
As senior vice president of Operations, Brenner oversees CAI's departments of Finance and Administration, Education, Communications and Chapter Service and Development. Brenner brings 17 years of experience in association management to CAI, most recently as vice president, Finance and Administration, for the American Association of Museums. His previous employment includes stints at the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare and the American Chemical Society.
Active in the area's association leadership community, Brenner served two terms as vice president for Membership of the Human Resources Association of the National Capital Area; chairs the Administration Committee of the American Society of Association Executives' Finance & Administration Section Council; serves on the board of Silk Painting International; and is a member of the Greater Washington Society of Association Executives. He earned his bachelor's and master's degree from the State University of New York at Albany and his master of business administration degree from the University of Maryland, College Park.
Cook is the Chief Innovation Officer of CAI, overseeing strategy development, image and positioning, and new projects. CAI's Marketing department and staff of the affiliated National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers report directly to her. Prior to joining CAI, Cook was division director, Public Affairs, for the National Paint & Coating Association, where she oversaw member services, public relations, public affairs, publications, communications and research. Her previous positions with NPCA include director, Publications and associate director, Communications. Her experience also includes stints at the American Consulting Engineers Council and the American Automobile Association.
Cook is a member of the American Society of Association Executives, the National Retail Federation, the Phi Kappa Phi honor society and the Omicron Delta Kappa honor/leadership fraternity. Active in her community, she is a Childreach foster parent and an assistant team coach for Arlington Girls' Softball Association. She earned a bachelor's degree from James Madison University.
The Community Associations Institute is a nonprofit association created in 1973 to educate and represent the nation's 205,000 community associations—condominium associations, homeowner associations and cooperatives. CAI members include homeowners, associations and related professionals and service providers.
