CAI's College of Community Association Lawyers Announces 2018 Officers
Nov. 13, 2017 — Falls Church, VA — Julie McGhee Howard, Esq., co-founder and managing partner of NowackHoward, LLC, in Atlanta, Ga., has been elected 2018 president of Community Associations Institute's prestigious College of Community Associations Lawyers (CCAL). McGhee's one-year term will begin on Jan. 1, 2018.
With extensive experience as general counsel on condominium and homeowners associations across Georgia, Howard is a passionate advocate for community associations and their residents and a long-time advocate for associations' legislative interests. Following many leadership positions in the CAI Georgia Chapter, Howard was elected to CAI's Board of Trustees in 2009 and served through 2015. She was CAI's 2014 president.
Matt D. Ober, Esq., a senior partner of Richardson Ober, P.C., in Pasadena, Calif., will serve as CCAL's 2018 president-elect. His one-year term as president will begin on Jan. 1, 2019.
Specializing in common interest development law, residential and commercial real estate litigation, construction contracts, and defect claims recovery cases, Ober has more than two decades of experience in community association law. He is a recognized industry leader, noted author, advocate, featured speaker, and a member of CAI's faculty.
Established in 1993 by CAI's Board of Trustees, CCAL provides a forum for experienced legal professionals working in the community association field to exchange information. Its goals include promoting high standards of professional and ethical responsibility, improving and advancing community association law and practice, and facilitating the development of educational materials and programming pertaining to legal issues.
CCAL members are lawyers who have demonstrated skill, experience, and high standards of professional and ethical conduct and are dedicated to excellence in the specialized practice of community association law. They are involved in state and federal legislative activities and prepare amicus curiae (friend-of-the-court) briefs on critical judicial cases that affect common-interest communities.
CCAL provides advanced professional educational programs to its fellows and identifies and contributes to the solution of community association legal challenges. It is a collegial forum for the exchange and development of ideas by some of the most knowledgeable attorneys in community association law.
