Options for AMS Redesignation
The completion of one M-200 level or above course is required every three years. In addition to the course, eight hours of other industry related education is required. Any industry related education can be used, the below is a sample, but not exhaustive, listing of possible options.
AMS designees who hold an active PCAM designation do not need to complete the AMS redesignation. The PCAM redesignation will cover the AMS redesignation.
-
CAI offers 500 on-demand webinars are available and new live webinars are added every month. Webinars vary in length, the webinar descriptions lists the number of hours they count for. This page lists all webinars greater than an hour in length.
-
CAI has 64 chapters worldwide, including Canada, the Middle East, and South Africa that offer educational programs. Any chapter educational offering can be used toward the eight hours. Please note: Social programs, such as parties or golf outings, cannot be used.
-
Attendance at the Annual Conference and Exhibition: Community Now, CEO-MC Retreat, Community Association Law Seminar, High-Rise Managers Workshop, or Large-Scale Managers Workshop will cover the eight hours of other industry related education. Please note: The M-200 level or above course is still required.
-
As any industry related education can be used for the eight hours, CAI does not preapprove education. However, CAMICB has a list of preapproved education for their CMCA recertification. Any education approved for CMCA recertification can also be used for AMS redesignation.
-
Designees can earn continuing education for articles for industry related publications. A copy of the published work must be submitted with the AMS redesignation form, or a link provided if the online redesignation process is used. Hours will be awarded based on the following:
- 500–1,000-word article: 2 hours
- 1,001–1,500-word article:
- 3 hours 1,500+: 4 hours
Being interviewed for an article does not count for this option. -
Instucting or speaking on a topic relating the community association management can count toward the eight hours. Each hour of speaking or instructing would count for an hour.
-
Hours may be earned for volunteer service to organizations whose mission pertains to community associations or the management profession. Designees cannot receive compensation for any activities for which they report. The following service activities can be counted towards continuing education hours:
- National/International Organization Board: 8 hours
- State Organization/Chapter Board: 4 hours
- Organization Committee: 4 hours
- HOA/Condo Board: 4 hours
-
While it is not recommended, as this will limit the designee's options in the future, completion of an additional M-200 level or above course can be used for the eight hours.
The M-200 level courses must be completed prior to the August 1 deadline, regardless of when you register for them. -
Any industry related education can be used for the eight hours including education used to maintain a license or education completed through your company.
