Community Associations Institute Honors Rep. Young Kim with National “Hero of Associations” Award

Falls Church, Va.

Award recognizes Rep. Young Kim's leadership and longstanding support for the community association housing model.

November 6, 2025 — Falls Church, Va. — Community Associations Institute, the leading international authority supporting condominium associations, homeowners associations (HOAs), and housing cooperatives, has presented U.S. Representative Young Kim (California) with the Hero of Associations Award. The award recognizes her steadfast support for the community association housing model and her ongoing commitment to strengthening communities through responsible governance and collaborative leadership.

“Representative Kim has demonstrated exceptional leadership and a deep understanding of how community associations enhance quality of life for millions of residents,” says Dawn M. Bauman, CAE, chief executive officer at Community Associations Institute. “Her work reflects a genuine commitment to good governance, homeowner empowerment, and ensuring that these communities continue to thrive as a vital part of the American housing landscape.”

“I’m honored to receive the Hero of Associations Award from the Community Associations Institute,” says U.S. Representative Young Kim. “Millions of Americans live in HOAs, condominiums, and cooperatives that help keep our neighborhoods safe and connected. I’ll continue supporting policies that promote transparency, accountability, and strong local governance.”

California leads the nation with 51,250 community associations, providing homes for an estimated 14.4 million residents, or 36.7% of Californians, according to the Foundation for Community Association Research. Representative Kim has consistently advocated for these homeowners, ensuring their voices are heard in policy discussions and supporting legislation that strengthens local governance.

The Hero of Associations Award celebrates public officials who exemplify partnership and support for the nation’s 365,000 community associations and the 77.1 million Americans who call them home. The recognition highlights both lawmakers’ dedication to fair and effective housing policy, their engagement with CAI’s advocacy efforts, and their consistent efforts to strengthen the shared governance model that defines community association living.
