
John Sekel, CPA
Chief Financial Officer
John T. Sekel Jr., CPA, serves as CAI’s chief financial officer, leading the finance team and supporting all activities related to financial performance, reporting, budgeting, compliance, and risk management. With over a decade of progressive leadership in accounting and financial operations, Sekel has built a reputation for driving strategic improvements across private sector, nonprofit, and corporate environments.
His career includes roles such as vice president of accounting at MCI USA where he led a team of 10 finance professionals servicing more than 30 nonprofit associations and acting as CFO for several key clients. Sekel also held a senior accounting position at Gannett leading accounting for Gannett Ventures and USA Today’s digital revenues specializing in ASC 606 compliance. He began his career in public accounting at Frank and Company (now Prager Metis) managing complex tax and audit engagements while earning his CPA license.
Sekel holds an accounting degree from the University of Connecticut and is a certified public accountant. He is an active AICPA member and serves as treasurer on his local HOA board. In his free time, Sekel enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children outdoors, at sporting events, or dining out.
