CAI Supports Texas

CAISupportsTX01.jpg

Hurricane Harvey has been catastrophic to the nearly 20,000 community associations and more than 4 million residents living in Texas. Now, more than ever before, community associations in Texas must come together to survive this natural disaster and ultimately recover. Community Associations Institute, CAI, is here to support these communities and their residents in need and provide you with timely updates and resources.

HOW TO HELP

Currently, there are approximately 30,000 people in temporary shelters due to flooding according to The Independent. Below is how they suggest serving these communities.

UPDATE: Texas is still in the response phase and is unable to accommodate any material goods at this time. Unsolicited donations create a challenge of storage and sorting when focus is needed on response and recovery. Therefore, the Greater Houston Chapter of CAI would like to collect gift cards for Hurricane Harvey’s victims. Please donate gift cards. Suggested retailers include HEB Grocery, Walmart, Lowes, Target and/or Home Depot. The Houston Chapter will collect gift cards at upcoming events, or you can forward to:

CAISupportsHoustonInfo (002).jpgContact Your Member of Congress to Support H.R. 3238 Disaster Equity Act
The Federal Emergency  Management Agency (FEMA) has made it very difficult for community associations to qualify for public assistance funds for recovery efforts after a Presidentially declared disaster. Following Super Storm Sandy (NJ) in 2012, Representatives Israel and Nadler introduced a bill to clarify community associations eligibility. Unfortunately, the bill did not pass. Following Hurricane Matthew (SC) last year, Representative Sanford joined leadership for the cause to sponsor the bill. CAI applauds his steadfast leadership in ensuring disaster relief fairness for community associations, as stated in a recent Active Advocacy Alert here

Wherever you live, you can help by contacting your Member of Congress and asking them to sponsor H.R. 3238. Click here for more information and to take action
