
Steven
Weil, Esq., is a founding principal of Berding & Weil, LLP, one of the
largest firms in California providing transactional advice and litigation
services to homeowners associations and other property owners. Weil has
practiced community association law since 1984 and has helped clients address
virtually all types of challenges arising out of the operation of community
associations. Areas of practice include advising clients on compliance with
association, board, and member duties under the Davis-Stirling Common Interest
Development Act and other state and federal laws; analyzing fiduciary duty,
free speech, discrimination, parking, and insurance issues; assisting
communities address construction needs; and handling CC&R and architectural
enforcement matters. Weil is especially effective in helping communities
facing political challenges, financing large capital improvements, or other
projects requiring membership or judicial approval. He lecturers frequently at
both the state and national level on matters impacting community associations.
Weil was admitted into the College of Community Association Lawyers (CCAL) in
2005 and was twice elected by his peers to serve on its Board of Governors. He
was unanimously elected to serve as CCAL President for the 2017 term. He
is a long-standing member of the faculty of the California Association of
Community Managers (CACM), co-authored its Ethics text materials, and in 2001
and 2005 was awarded its Vision Award for Excellence in Education. Weil
also proudly serves on the Board of Directors of the Educational Community for
Homeowners.
