The documents below are brief media statements on some of the issues faced by homeowner and condominium associations, cooperatives and other association-governed communities.
Community associations exist because they provide choices, lifestyles, amenities and efficiencies that people value. While most associations function effectively and without significant conflict, issues can and do arise. Some of the more complicated issues involve the challenge of balancing the rights of the individual homeowner with those of the community as a whole. Rather than taking sides in such disputes, CAI strives to promote effective, efficient and harmonious communities. In all cases, we encourage open and ongoing communication, responsive leadership and responsible citizenship.
That is why we developed Rights and Responsibilities for Better Communities, a series of 42 practices and principles designed to guide community association leadership and residents. For more information, visit www.caionline.org/rightsandresponsibilities/.
